How to compress a PDF
- Choose your PDF.
- Pick how much to compress: Recommended is a good balance.
- Press Compress, check the new size and download.
How it works
- Photos and scanned pages inside the PDF are re-saved as JPEG at a lower quality, and very large ones are scaled down (to 2400, 1700 or 1100 pixels on the longest side, depending on the level).
- An image is only replaced when the new version is smaller.
- Text, fonts and vector graphics are copied unchanged, so text stays sharp and selectable.
- Unused objects are removed and the file structure is packed.
When it helps
PDFs made from scans, phone photos or slides with pictures often shrink by 50–80%. PDFs that are mostly text are usually small already, so they shrink little; the tool tells you honestly when there was nothing to gain.

Will the text get blurry?
No. Only images are re-compressed. Text and vector drawings are not changed.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF (you need the password).
Is there a size limit?
No server-imposed file size limits. Very large PDFs simply need more memory and time on your device.
Is my PDF uploaded?
