What it finds

• Zero-width spaces, joiners and non-joiners, word joiners, byte order marks and soft hyphens.
• Direction marks and overrides (left-to-right, right-to-left), which can make text display in a misleading order.
• Non-breaking, thin, narrow, figure and other unusual spaces, which become normal spaces.
• Tag characters (U+E0000 to U+E007F), which can hide whole messages inside normal-looking text.
• Control characters, Hangul fillers, the Braille blank and other characters that look like nothing.

Emoji stay whole

Some emoji are made of several characters joined by invisible ones (👨‍👩‍👧, ❤️). Those joiners and variation selectors are kept by default, so emoji don't fall apart.

Why invisible characters cause trouble

They break searches and comparisons (two words that look the same don't match), make code fail, add stray spaces in spreadsheets, and can carry hidden text into AI prompts. Text copied from websites, PDFs, chat apps and AI assistants often contains some.
