How to count characters

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Read the counts and the progress bars for common limits.
  3. Edit until your text fits.

How characters are counted

Characters are counted as people see them: an emoji or an accented letter counts as one character, even if it is stored as several code units. The UTF-8 byte count shows how much space the text takes in files and databases.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Counting happens in your browser and your text is not saved or sent anywhere.

Do spaces count as characters?

In the main count, yes. The Without spaces count leaves out spaces, tabs and line breaks.

Are the platform limits exact?

They are a guide. Some platforms count links, emoji or certain characters differently.
