How to extract text from a PDF

- The text appears, with or without page breaks.
- Copy it or download it as a .txt file.
Good to know
- Works with PDFs that contain real text (made from Word, a browser, or most apps).
- Scanned PDFs are pictures of text, so they have no text to extract. Reading text from images (OCR) is not available here.
- Columns and tables come out as lines of text; complex layouts may need tidying, for example with the Text Cleaner.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF (you need the password).
Need a Word document?
PDF to Word conversion isn't available yet. Extracting the text and pasting it into Word keeps the words, but not the layout.

Why is the result empty?
The PDF is probably a scan (an image of text). Text can only be extracted from PDFs that contain real text.
