How to Merge PDF Files Into One, in the Right Order

· 3 min read

Job applications want your CV, cover letter and certificates "as one PDF". Accountants want all of a month's receipts together. Instead of sending five attachments, merging them into one tidy document is quicker for everyone. Here's how to do it properly.

Merge PDFs in three steps

  1. Open the PDF Merger.
  2. Add your PDF files. Drag them into the order you want; the first file in the list becomes the first pages of the result.
  3. Merge and download.

Pages are copied unchanged, so text stays sharp and searchable, images keep their quality, and the file isn't re-compressed. There's no server-imposed limit on the number of files or their size; very large documents simply need more memory on your device.

Fine-tune the page order

Sometimes merging whole files isn't enough. You may want to move a page, remove a blank one, or turn a sideways scan upright. After merging, open the result in Organize PDF:

  • See every page as a thumbnail.
  • Drag pages into a new order.
  • Rotate individual pages.
  • Delete pages you don't need.

Then save. Again, pages are copied, not re-rendered, so nothing loses quality.

Name and order files for less work

If you merge documents often, a little preparation saves time:

  • Give files numbered names, like 01-cover-letter.pdf, 02-cv.pdf, 03-certificate.pdf, so they sort in the right order automatically.
  • Put the most important document first. Reviewers often look at the first page and decide whether to read on.
  • If some files are images (JPG or PNG photos of certificates), turn them into PDF pages first with JPG to PDF, then merge.

Is the merged file too big?

Merging adds the sizes of all files together. If the result is too large to email or upload, compress it with Compress PDF. It re-compresses the images inside, especially photos and scans, while text and vector drawings stay untouched and sharp.

Common questions

Can I merge password-protected PDFs? Protected files must be unlocked first, which needs the password. Use Unlock PDF, then merge.

Do links and bookmarks survive? Pages and their content are copied. Simple document features generally carry over, but complex interactive features such as forms can behave differently after merging, so check the final file.

Can I merge on my phone? Yes. The merger works in mobile browsers too. Choose files from your phone's storage or cloud apps.

Can I merge only some pages of each file? Merge whole files first, then delete the pages you don't want in Organize PDF. Or extract the pages you need from each file before merging.

My pages have different sizes. Is that a problem? No. Each page keeps its own size, so an A4 letter and a small receipt can sit in the same PDF. If you print it, choose "fit to page" in the print dialog so every page fits the paper.

Can I merge Word documents or images? The merger combines PDFs. Save Word documents as PDF first (File › Save As › PDF), and turn images into PDF pages with JPG to PDF.

Your documents stay private

Merged PDFs are often CVs, contracts, bank statements or ID documents. Many PDF websites upload them to their servers to process. Here, merging happens entirely in your browser: the files never leave your device, and there's nothing to delete afterwards.

Summary

  1. Add PDFs to the merger and set the order.
  2. Use Organize PDF to move, rotate or delete pages.
  3. Compress the result if it's too big to send.
