How to convert a video to GIF

  1. Choose a video.
  2. Set the start and end of the clip, the frame rate and the width.
  3. Press Create GIF, check the preview and download.

Getting a good GIF

  • GIFs are large: keep clips short and use a smaller width or a lower frame rate for smaller files. The page shows an estimate before you start.
  • GIF has at most 256 colors per frame, so smooth gradients may show banding. This is a limit of the GIF format.
  • Sound is not included, because GIF images cannot contain audio.
  • No length limit, but every frame is kept in memory and GIF files grow fast: a few seconds at 10–15 frames per second is usual.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your video is processed locally in your browser and never leaves your device. This site has no upload feature, and its security policy blocks the page from uploading anything.

How long can the GIF be?

There is no set maximum length; the page tells you how many frames your choice makes. Long clips make very large GIFs, so a lower frame rate or a smaller width helps.

Why is my GIF file so big?

GIF is an old format with weak compression. Reduce the width, the frame rate or the length of the clip.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Frames are read and the GIF is built on your device.
