How to normalize audio loudness
- Choose an audio file.
- Pick the target: −14 LUFS for music streaming, −16 LUFS for podcasts, −23 LUFS for TV and radio.
- Download the normalized file.
Loudness, not just peaks
Peak normalizing only looks at the single loudest moment, so two files can still sound very different. Loudness normalization measures how loud the whole file sounds to people (integrated loudness, ITU-R BS.1770, the method behind EBU R128 and streaming services), then raises or lowers it to the target.
Good to know
- Quiet files raised a lot may have their loudest peaks softened gently, so they don't distort; the result can then be slightly below the target.
- Files are raised by 20 dB at most, so a nearly silent recording isn't made noisy.
- Video files work too: use Change Video Volume, which has the same Loudness option, and the picture is copied as it is.

Veelgestelde vragen
Which LUFS should I choose?
For Spotify, YouTube, Tidal and most music: −14 LUFS. For podcasts and Apple Music or Apple Podcasts: −16 LUFS. For broadcast (EBU R128): −23 LUFS. Streaming services turn louder files down anyway, so going louder than their target doesn't help.
Is my audio uploaded?
