How to convert AI to PNG

  1. Choose the .ai file.
  2. Pick the resolution (300 DPI is good for most uses) and keep "Transparent background" on for logos.
  3. Press Convert to PNG and download each artboard.

How it works

Illustrator saves a PDF copy of the artwork inside .ai files when "Create PDF Compatible File" is on, which is the default. That copy is drawn at the resolution you choose. Each artboard becomes one image.

Good to know

  • The background stays transparent; turn off "Transparent background" for a white one.
  • Files saved without PDF compatibility can only be read by Illustrator: the tool explains how to re-save them.
  • This page takes Illustrator files only. To turn a PDF into PNG images, use PDF to PNG.
  • EPS files are not supported.
  • Fonts and effects look as Illustrator saved them in the PDF copy.

Your artwork stays on your device

What resolution should I pick?

72 DPI for screens, 150 for documents, 300 for print. 600 DPI gives very large images.

Can I get an SVG instead?

Not with this tool. In Illustrator, use File › Export › Export As › SVG.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It is processed in your browser and never sent anywhere.
