Speed trainer
Keyboard: Space starts and stops, ↑ and ↓ change the tempo by 1 (with Shift by 10), T taps the tempo. The clicks are made by your browser and timed by its audio clock, so they stay steady.

How to use the metronome
- Set the tempo with the slider, the − and + buttons or the number field, or tap the beat on Tap tempo.
- Choose the beats in a bar (4 for 4/4, 3 for a waltz, 6 for 6/8) and how many clicks per beat.
- Press Start or the space bar.
- To practise getting faster, open Speed trainer and choose how much to add and how often.
Steady timing
The clicks are made by your browser's audio engine and placed on its own clock a fraction of a second ahead, so they stay exactly in time even if the page is busy. The lights follow the same clock.
In a background tab browsers slow down page timers, so the metronome then plans the clicks two seconds ahead. Changing the tempo while the page is hidden can take up to two seconds to be heard.
Beats, accents and subdivisions
- The first beat of each bar is higher and louder; turn this off to hear every beat the same.
- Clicks per beat adds quieter clicks between the beats: 2 for eighth notes, 3 for triplets, 4 for sixteenth notes.
- For compound time such as 6/8 at a slow tempo, set 6 beats in a bar; for a fast 6/8 felt in two, set 2 beats with 3 clicks per beat.
Tap tempo
Tap at least twice in time with the music. The tempo is worked out from the middle value of your last eight taps, so one early or late tap doesn't throw it off. Wait two seconds to start counting again.
Câu hỏi thường gặp
Does it work on a phone?
It needs a browser with Web Audio, which current versions of the major browsers have on computers and phones. If you hear nothing on a phone, turn off silent mode: some phones mute web pages in silent mode.
Is anything recorded or sent anywhere?
No. The metronome only plays sound; it doesn't use the microphone, and nothing leaves your device.
