How to remove background noise

  1. Choose an audio or video file.
  2. Choose how much noise to remove.
  3. Press Remove noise, listen, and download.

Made for speech

  • Voice recordings, podcasts, interviews, lectures, calls and videos with talking.
  • Steady noise is removed best: fans, air conditioning, computers, traffic, hum and hiss. Sudden noises (a door, a dog) are reduced, not always removed.
  • Music and singing are treated as noise, so don't use it on songs.

How it works

RNNoise, a small neural network trained to tell speech from noise, runs in your browser (it is part of this site, about 5 MB, and loads only on this page). For videos the picture is copied without changes and only the sound is cleaned, in step with the picture.

Your file stays on your device

Everything happens in your browser. Your file is never uploaded, and this site's security policy blocks the page from sending files anywhere.

Does it use AI in the cloud?

No. The noise model runs on your device; nothing is uploaded.

The voice sounds a little thin. What can I do?

Choose "Most" or "Some": they keep part of the original sound for a more natural result.
