How to open an Excel file without Excel

  1. Choose the .xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv file.
  2. Pick a sheet from the tabs; rows are shown 200 at a time.
  3. Need the data elsewhere? Excel to CSV and Excel to JSON convert it.

Good to know

  • Values are shown as Excel last calculated them, dates as dates. Formulas aren't re-run, and macros never run.
  • Formatting, charts, pictures and comments are not shown.
  • Old .xls workbooks from Excel 97–2003 (and Excel 95) open too. Binary .xlsb workbooks don't.
  • CSV files are read in any common separator (comma, semicolon, tab) and character encoding.

Can it open a password-protected workbook?

No. Remove the password in Excel first (you need to know it).

Is my spreadsheet uploaded?

No. It is read in your browser and never sent anywhere.
