How to encode Base64
- Type or paste text, or choose "Encode a file…".
- Pick URL-safe Base64, line breaks or a data: URL if you need them.
- Copy or download the result.
Good to know
- Text is encoded as UTF-8, so accents, other scripts and emoji come back exactly.
- URL-safe Base64 uses - and _ instead of + and / and drops the = padding, as JWTs and many URLs do.
- Base64 is about a third larger than the original data. It is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I encode images?

Is my text or file uploaded?
