How to remove silence
- Choose a recording or a video.
- Check the pauses it found on the timeline, and play it to hear the result. Adjust the level and the pause length if needed.
- Choose Remove or Shorten, press the button and download.
Settings
- Quiet below: the level under which sound counts as a pause. It starts just above your file's own background noise.
- Pauses longer than: shorter gaps (between words) are left alone.
- Remove or Shorten: take pauses out, or shorten each one to a length you choose, which sounds more natural.
- Keep around words: a little quiet before and after the sound, so the start and end of words aren't clipped.
Good to know
- Picture and sound are cut together, so a video stays in sync (jump cuts).
- Every cut is exact and gets a few milliseconds of fade, so it doesn't click. The file is re-encoded at high quality.
- Background music or noise can hide pauses. Raise the level until the pauses are found.
- Exact cuts use your browser's built-in video technology: best in current Chrome and Edge, and recent Safari and Firefox versions.

Frequently asked questions
Can I hear the result before saving?
Yes. With "Skip the parts that will be removed" on, playing the file jumps over them.
Will it cut out quiet words?
It can if the level is set too high. Lower "Quiet below", or keep more around words.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is processed in your browser and never sent anywhere.
