How to make a strong password

  1. A new password appears at once.
  2. Choose the length and which characters to use.
  3. Copy it, and save it in your password manager.

How strong?

  • The strength is shown in bits of randomness: 60 bits is good for most accounts, 80 or more is very strong.
  • Length matters most: 16 characters or more is a good habit.
  • "Avoid look-alikes" leaves out I, l, 1, O and 0, for passwords you have to type or read out.

Passwords come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator (the same one used for encryption), with every character chosen evenly. They are not stored, not logged and never sent anywhere.
