How to get the text out of a PowerPoint

  1. Choose the presentation.
  2. Choose whether to include speaker notes and hidden slides; search for a word if you need to.
  3. Copy the text, or save it as .txt, .docx, .md or .csv.

What is read

  • Slide titles, text boxes and placeholders in slide order, with their indent levels.
  • Tables, cell by cell, and the text of SmartArt graphics.
  • Speaker notes, if you want them.
  • Not read: text inside pictures, charts and embedded objects, and WordArt drawn as pictures.

The formats

  • Text (.txt): a heading per slide, then its text and notes.
  • Word (.docx): the same with headings, tables and notes in italics, ready to edit.
  • Markdown (.md): for wikis, notes apps and documentation.
  • Spreadsheet (.csv): one row per slide with its title, text and notes.

常见问题

Is the text in the order I see it?

The title comes first, then the other text in the order the shapes are stored on the slide, which is usually the order they were added. Shapes placed side by side may come in a different order than you read them.

Can it read text in pictures?

No. For pictures of text, extract the pictures and use Image to Text.

Can I use an old .ppt file?

No. The old PowerPoint 97–2003 format (.ppt) is a different kind of file. Open it in PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides or LibreOffice Impress, save it as .pptx, then use that file. To just look at a .ppt, use the PowerPoint Viewer.

Is my presentation uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device.
