How to extract frames from a GIF

  1. Choose an animated GIF.
  2. Look through the frames and their timing. Pick PNG or JPG, and every frame or every 2nd, 5th or 10th.
  3. Save single frames, or download them all as a ZIP.

Good to know

  • Frames are saved as they appear on screen: GIFs often store only the changed part of each frame, and the full picture is rebuilt here, exactly like a browser does.
  • PNG keeps the exact colors and transparency. JPG is smaller and gets a white background.
  • The details show the number of frames, the size, the length of one loop and how often it repeats.
  • Only GIF files are supported (not animated WebP or PNG).

How many frames can it handle?

Any number. Frames are decoded one at a time, so long GIFs don't fill your memory. The preview shows the first 120.

Are the colors changed?

No, when you save as PNG: the frames have exactly the GIF's colors.

Are my images uploaded?

No. They are processed in your browser and never sent anywhere.
