How to create a ZIP file
- Choose files or a folder (or drag them in). Add more at any time.
- Pick ZIP, TAR.GZ or TAR, and for a ZIP the compression and an optional password.
- Press Create and download the file.
Good to know
- Folders keep their structure inside the ZIP.
- "Smaller ZIP" compresses documents, text and other compressible files. Photos, videos, music and other already-compressed files are added as they are, because compressing them again saves nothing.
- Large files are read in pieces, and ZIP64 is used automatically for files or ZIPs over 4 GB.
- File names with accents and other alphabets are stored in UTF-8, which Windows, macOS and Linux understand.
- A ZIP can have a password: AES-256 (strong; opens with 7-Zip, WinRAR, Keka or The Unarchiver) or ZipCrypto (weak, but opens in Windows and macOS without extra software). File names stay visible; only the contents are encrypted.
- TAR.GZ and TAR are the usual formats on Linux and macOS. They can't have a password, and every file gets the usual permissions (rw-r--r--).

Frequently asked questions
Is there a size limit?
No server-imposed file size or file count limits. The ZIP is put together in your browser's memory, so the free memory of your device is the practical limit.
Can I open the ZIP on any computer?
Yes. It is a standard ZIP file that Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS can open.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The ZIP is made on your device.
