How to hash text
- Type or paste the text.
- Choose hexadecimal or Base64, and turn on HMAC with a key if you need a signature.
- Copy the hash you need.
Checking webhook signatures
Many services sign webhooks with HMAC-SHA256: paste the raw request body, enter your signing secret, and compare the result with the signature header (some send it in hex, others in Base64).
Exact input matters
Hashes change completely if one byte changes. The text is hashed as UTF-8 exactly as typed, including spaces and line breaks; tick "Ignore a line break at the end" if you copied a trailing new line.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use MD5 or SHA-1 for passwords?
No. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security use, and plain hashes are the wrong tool for passwords. Use them only for checksums and compatibility.
Is my text or key sent anywhere?
No. Hashing happens in your browser.
