How to check keyword density
- Paste your article.
- Type your keyword to see how often it appears.
- Switch between single words and 2- or 3-word phrases, and download the list as CSV if you like.
How density is calculated
Density is the share of all words that belong to the keyword: a two-word phrase used 5 times in a 500-word text covers 10 words, which is 2%. Common small words (the, and, of…) are left out of the list unless you switch that off; phrases don't cross the end of a sentence.
What is a good density?
There is no magic number. Use your main keyword naturally, in the title, the first paragraph and a heading or two. Above about 3%, text usually starts to read as repetitive, and search engines don't reward repetition.
Frequently asked questions
Does keyword density still matter for SEO?
Not as a number to hit. It is useful to spot a keyword you forgot, or one you repeat too often.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The counting happens in your browser.
