How to convert text to binary
- Choose Text to binary or Binary to text.
- Type your text, or paste the binary (spaces between bytes are optional).
- Copy or download the result.
How it works
Each character is stored as one or more bytes in UTF-8, the encoding used by web pages and most files. A byte is 8 binary digits, so "H" is 01001000 (72). Letters with accents take 2 bytes and emoji 4, so they become longer runs of bits.
Good to know
- Binary without spaces is read 8 digits at a time.
- Hex, octal and decimal bytes are understood too, with or without 0x and 0b prefixes.
- Bytes that don't form a valid character are shown as .
